Mary Teeter
Mary Teeter designs and sews by hand all the buttonworks. Her husband, Terry, crafts the frames of antique wood. Mary comes to the fiber arts from a New England quilting and sewing tradition. Originally trained as an occupational therapist in psychiatry, she used art therapy in her practice. Now retired, she has returned to her artistic roots incorporating wry humor and craftsmanship with folk materials; an endeavor bolstered by their rural farn life in Pennsylvania where recycling is a way of life, The fabrics and wood used in the work are culled from auctions and flea markets. The designs are a result of many dreams, conversations, reading, and plain old 'serendipity.' The final choices for the works are decided by whether it creates smiles or feelingss of recognition and connection.
